Ed Sheeran? Rock Music?!?
(Published: 2019/08/03)
Mind. Blown. Since when does Ed Sheeran make rock music??? (Yes that deserved three question marks) If you haven’t listened to Ed Sheeran’s new album, No. 6 Collaboration Project* , which is highly unlikely considering it has been number one on the official album charts for three weeks now, you should know that it is exactly what the title says it is: a collaboration project. I personally don’t like Ed Sheeran music, spare ‘Sing’ which was programmed into my music taste after watching a live performance of it when I was little. In fact, Ed Sheeran music does an extremely good job at being irritating and results in me changing the channel on my radio very quickly. There is just something about it being so pop and so mopey. You’re also a culprit, Lewis Capaldi. Ed Sheeran’s new album is just as pop as all the others, and ‘Best Part of Me’ is especially mopey (I apologise to YEBBA, because her performance at Sofar Sounds was phenomenal and it’s really cool that she’s finally starting to get more mainstream recognition after being featured by Ed Sheeran and Mark Ronson). ‘I Don’t Care’ is a trainwreck of two bad artists making each other even worse and trying to make their song send a good message about fitting in but turning it into a generic love song nonetheless. Honestly, it sounds like a bad mashup (I’m sorry, I know that’s a little harsh). Also, the music video slowly murdered me. I get they were trying to go for some sort of intentional green screen fail style, but my eyes just couldn’t cope. Most of the other songs are direct clones of what generally plays on mainstream radio…….except one. ‘BLOW’, a collaboration with Bruno Mars and Chris Stapleton, is a literal rock song! So Ed Sheeran went from releasing mopey pop songs to making a full-on rock song?! Shakes head in bewilderment. And the second thing is, I like it! I am so (pleasantly) surprised that Ed Sheeran would go in this direction.
Anyway that’s my very unimportant music rant for today.
*Ed Sheeran naming No. 5 Collaboration Project: What should I call my new album? Hmm…..(10 minutes later)….Let’s just call it number….(thinks of favourite number)…5! And it’s a collaboration…project? Ok let’s call it No. 5 Collaboration Project. We can change the album name later.
Releases album: …I finally remember what I forgot to do! I knew there was something…that damn album title! Wait, now I have to release a second album called No. 6 Collaboration Project so it seems as if I didn’t make a mistake! Groan..
