5 Artists You Need to Know About

(Published: 2018/10/21)

Edit: I still listen to all five of these artists in 2021!

I am someone who absolutely loves music, and just this week I have found five new artists to add to my list of favourites.

  1. Ocean Alley. Ocean Alley recently released their album Chiaroscuro and as part of that album, the song Confidence, which I love. Their style is an RnB-ish sort of Rock and if you like 70s music, not only does their song Confidence sound 70s, but they have also covered Baby Come Back, a 70s song. I think Ocean Alley is one of those artists which is bringing back the trend of old-style music very much like the artist ‘I Know Leopard’ (which I will get to in a bit). You can check out Ocean Alley’s songs on iTunes, Spotify and YouTube just to name a few and believe me, it’s well worth it.

  2. I Know Leopard. To sum it up, retro-style music which you will not be able to stop listening to. I Know Leopard hasn’t released a huge amount of music, but the music that has been released is so good it’s not even funny. With some artists, you find one song you love and the rest you aren’t a fan of. That is not the case with I Know Leopard. If you love their latest single Landmine, you will love all their other songs too. As with Ocean Alley, you can find all I Know Leopard’s music on iTunes, Spotify and YouTube.

  3. Snoh Aalegra. Ok, I admit I like this artist only because of her song, Nothing Burns Like The Cold, but I felt I had to mention her because I think she has the potential to release some very good songs like Nothing Burns Like The Cold. If you listen to it and think you’ve heard it somewhere but you don’t know where, it’s because it samples a Portishead song called Glory Box, which Alessia Cara also sampled in her song, Here. You might also recognise it from a recent Apple Ad or an Isaac Hayes song which Portishead sampled. On the subject of Portishead, you should definitely take a listen to them if you like Nothing Burns Like The Cold even though they are a very old band*.* You can listen to both artists on iTunes, Spotify and YouTube. And if you like rap music, take a listen to Jump Off the Roof on the album Summertime ’06.

  4. Glass Animals. I. Love. This. Artist. With their deep beats and songs that tell a story, Glass Animals’ music is something you can’t miss. The most interesting thing about their album, How to be a Human Being is the fact that all their songs are based on stories told by real people on their last tour which one of the band members secretly recorded. So when you listen to their songs, don’t forget to take a look at the lyrics. Their last release was 2016, but hopefully there will be some new music soon! Unfortunately, their drummer was recently hit by a truck while riding his bike so it could be a while before there are any tours. Get better soon! In the meantime, you can access their past music on iTunes, Spotify and YouTube.

  5. L’Impératrice. Finally, there’s L’Impératrice. L’Impératrice is a band that has released a huge amount of great music. While their lyrics are mostly in French, it makes for good chill music so you can do homework without lyrics circling constantly in your head (of course, this only works if you can’t speak French). Their songs have a really nice baseline and are very atmospheric. A few of my favourites are Matahari, La Lune, Dreaming of You and Parfum Thérémine. Check it out on all the usual streaming services (iTunes, Spotify, YouTube) even if you don’t usually like international music. L’Impératrice will certainly change your mind about that.

If you liked this music, share this post with others! There’s nothing better than finding your new favourite artist and what better way to find that artist than from your friends?
