The Rise of Skywalker Review (No Spoilers)

(Published: 2019/12/19)

Yes, yes, YES JJ Abrams! That was insane! I went into the cinema with such low expectations because of the movie’s 58% Rotten Tomatoes score (which makes it officially rotten) and came out of the cinema ranting about how great the movie was! Honestly, I thought the movie lived up to the huge position it had to fill as the last Star Wars movie in the Skywalker Saga. There were a few little things that I thought were a bit pathetic and a couple of unbelievable coincidences, but as a whole, the movie was very…enjoyable! And that’s the point of a movie isn’t it? The whole cinema was shaking from the explosions, I was completely immersed (in fact at one point someone in the cinema clapped and I had a brief realisation I was in a cinema), and I was on the edge of my seat for practically the whole two and a bit hours. What a wonderful Thursday night. As usual, I loved the soundtrack (thank you John Williams) and the sound engineering was great. I won’t spoil anything, but the ending (although I’m sad about a very specific thing) was very sweet. The saga was tied up very nicely with a few references to the original trilogy and I am about to go and read all the critic reviews so I can understand what movie they saw that I didn’t! And to give you some perspective on my movie taste, I love action films but can’t stand Marvel because of the ridiculous plot lines. I like very heavy action but I also like comedy. I generally do agree with Rotten Tomatoes (although I don’t have any clue how The Last Jedi did so well) so it’s not like I have completely rubbishy movie taste. Anyway, if you are deliberating whether or not to watch The Rise of Skywalker, I suggest you ignore the Rotten Tomatoes this time around and see it for yourself. Go Star Wars!!!

(And go JJ Abrams!!! I had well placed faith in you. I knew you’d save the trilogy!)
